English for International Communication

Participants

English for International Communication is a one-week intensive 30-hour group course
for participants who want to increase their English language, professional
communication skills and intercultural awareness. We are happy to arrange a pre-course telephone interview to help assess English level. Maximum group size is six participants.

Objectives

This course is designed to develop the effectiveness of people working internationally.
It focuses on three main objectives:

1. English language - developing command of key terms and core grammar structure to communicate more fluently and accurately

2. Communication – developing core skills such as active listening, clear speaking,
rapport building and facilitating to use across all communication contexts including meetings,
informal discussions, negotiations, presentations, telephone calls, email correspondence and social contacts

3. Culture – developing knowledge, attitudes and behaviours to deal with differences
between individuals and groups

Content

The following ‘menu’ of items can be discussed with participants both pre-seminar via an introductory telephone call and during the seminar to develop a fully tailored content in line with interests. The objective will be to provide competence in areas relevant to each participant.

- project working
- HR, management and leadership

2. Communication
- listening effectively
- speaking with clarity and impact
- building relationship across cultures
- influencing with push and pull approaches
- facilitating group decision making
- creating synergy in diverse groups

These core skills will then be practised in business situations such as meetings, informal discussions, negotiations, presentations, telephone calls, email correspondence and social contacts

- adopting a learning approach across cultures

This course is 30 hours with each working day structured from 09.00 to 17.00 as follows:

Evening activities
At least two events will be arranged, either an evening dinner, sports activity, theatre, live music, countryside tour etc. This is optional and you are free to have dinner with your host family each evening if you wish.
