International project team communication
It is well documented that international projects often fail to deliver results as efficiently as possible. The challenges of collaborating virtually and different approaches to international working processes lead to breakdowns in communication and a failure to realise diversity synergies.
We support individuals working in international projects and international project teams with seminars which develop the awareness and skills to cooperate effectively in diverse international teams. We also facilitate kick-off meetings which integrate international team building.
Our support can offer significant benefits with project staff better able to:
- understand cultural diversity having mapped the dimensions of business culture significant in their own international project teamwork
- develop working relationships across cultures with a broad range of project stakeholders
- communicate transparently: understand how to set goals and define roles more clearly when interfacing with international team members
- develop an international project team culture by facilitating the set up of common norms and standards for effective international teamwork
- understand and manage typical conflicts arising from their international project environment
- maximise the range of insights and approaches within diverse terms to reach more innovative solutions
Case 1: Project Management Intercultural
A two-day international project management communication seminar. We run this programme four times per year for one of our major clients. The target group is project leads and workstream members who wish to develop an understanding of, the challenges of working across cultures and gain the management and communication competences to work successfully in an international project team.
Case 2: Project kick-off meeting facilitation
A team facilitation workshop for one of our major clients. A new international team got together for a one-day kick-off meeting. We supported the PMO and project lead to construct an agenda for the meeting and facilitated the process on the day. A secondary role was to give input to the new team about the challenges of working in international projects, and to support the building of a team culture based on open communication.
A two-day seminar for a large German multinational which looks the challenges of managing diversity in global teams. It is based around a strategic diversity initiative by the client to develop an inclusive work environment which fosters diverse approaches and working styles. Participants are asked to complete The International Profiler and debrief on the results by telephone in advance of the seminar. There is also a post-seminar debriefing call to clarify personal development steps with each participant.
Please note that we can also run individual courses or coaching sessions for professionals interested in these topics either in York or on-site at the client’s company.
